1951           Awaara released.  
1952         This is Cinerama released. Aan released.  
1953     To counteract the threat of television, Hollywood thinks big and develops wide-screen processes such as CinemaScope, first seen in The Robe.   Peter Pan released. Do Bigha Zameen releasd.  
1954           Aar Paar released.  
1955 70mm film is introduced with Oklahoma!       On the Waterfront nearly sweeps the 1954 Academy Awards, winning Best Picture, Best Actor (Marlon Brando), Best Supporting Actress (Eva Maria Saint), and Best Director (Elia Kazan). Jhanak Jhanak Payal Baaje released. One of India's first colour films. James Dean dies in a car accident at age 26.
1956         Around the World in 80 Days relased. Kabuliwalla realsed. Based on a Rabindranath Tagore story .  
1957         Mother India released. Heroic peasant woman (Nargis) does her duty towards her husband and sons despite heart-breaking obstacles. This movie was nominated in the "Best Foreign Film" category of the Oscars.  
1958         South Pacific released. Madhumati released. Death of Robert Donat (June 9).
1959         Sleeping Beauty released. Kaagaz Ke Phool released.  
1960         Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho terrifies audiences and becomes one of the year's most successful films, as well as one of the most memorable psychological thrillers. Mughal-e-Azam released.
